This is a guilt free halwa which everyone can enjoy.. In this recipe there is no artificial flavour or colour and on top of that no plain flour is added, which is traditionally used to make halwa..
Preparation time: 15 mts
Cooking time: 15+45
Almost 500g of Halwa can be made.
Ingredients for cooking plum:
- Plum – 8 – 10
- Water – 1 cup
- Cinnamon powder – 1/2 tsp
- Sugar – 1/2 cup
Other ingredients for making halwa :
- Ghee(clarified butter) – 3 table spoon
- Cardamom pods – 4
- Raisins – a handful
- Corn flour – 1/4 cup
- Water – 1/4 cup
Method:
- First deseed and cut the plums in to big chunks.
- Cook it using the ingredients for cooking the plum.
- When the plum is soft take it off the heat and allow it to cool.
- Once the plum is cooled a bit blend it in a mixer. A few pulse in the mixer will be enough to make it look rustic. If you want you can blend it fine too.
- Now we can start to make the halwa. 🙂
- Place a non-stick pan to heat and add 1/2 tsp of ghee and pour the blended plum in to the pan.
- Keep the gas on medium.
- Mix the corn flour in water and add this also to the pan.
- You’ll need to stir the mix continuously.
- Add crushed cardamom and raisins to the pan.
- If the mix starts to stick to the sides of the pan you can add the ghee bit by bit. You don’t have to use all the ghee recommended or if you wish you can use more too.. 🙂
- Once the mix starts to thicken and pull away from the pan, cook it for another 5 more minutes.
- Switch off the gas and pour the mix to a greased flat bowl and allow it to cool.
- It will take at least 2 hours to cool the halwa to the consistency to cut it in to squares.
- You can enjoy hot halwa with icecream too..
Notes:
- If you want caramelize some sugar and add together in step 11.
