Chutta chammanthi (Roasted coconut sambal)

Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Its spicy and tangy, everything to make your senses awake.  Its the perfect dish with hot rice on a rainy day. :)

Prep time : 10 mts

Severs : 3 – 4

Ingredients :

  • Fresh grated coconut – 1/2 cup
  • Red dry chilli – 4
  • Green chilli – 1
  • Small red onion/ shallots – 1
  • Ginger – 1/2 ‘
  • Curry leaves – 1 stem
  • Tamarind / tamarind pulp – 1/2 lime size / 1 tsp

Method :

  1. Roast red chillies by holding them using thongs and keeping it on the live fire. It takes only a few seconds to roast the chills.
  2. After roasting add all the ingredients including the roasted chillies to a blender and pulse a few times.
  3. That’s it ! :)
