Kids love KFC chicken. No matter what we do they want the fried chicken there. This is a healthy version of the fried chicken which is grilled, so that both kids and adults can enjoy. Chicken drumsticks are best for this recipe. You can always deep fry this chicken. 🙂
Preperation time: 10 mts
Grilling time : 20 mts @ 220 C
If you are deep frying it’ll take about 10 mts on one side and 2 on the other in medium heat.
Marinate preferably overnight.
Ingredients for marinade :
- Chicken (cut in to medium size pieces) – 500 g
- Yogurt – 1/2 cup (you can use buttermilk to give an original taste)
- Paprika/chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Thyme (dried) – 1/2 tsp (Fresh thyme – 6-7 sticks)
- Caraway seeds (Shahi jeera) – 1/2 tsp (optional) This gives a warm spice flavour.
- Ground black pepper – 1/2 tsp
- Salt – 1/2 tsp
Ingredients for the crust :
- Bread crumps / Oats – 1/2 cup
- Grated parmesan cheese – 1/4 cup
- Paprika / chilli powder – 1/2 tsp
- Salt – 1/4 tsp
- Egg – 1 ( I’ve used only the egg white)
- Plain flour – 1/2 cup (I’ve used wheat flour or atta)
Method :
- Mix all the ingredients for the marinade to the chicken pieces and keep it in the fridge for 2 to overnight.
- When its time for frying /grilling , take out the chicken and allow it to thaw for at least 1/2 an hour.
- Take 3 bowls.
- In the 1st bowl mix all the ingredients for crust till the salt, in the 2nd beat an egg and in the 3rd take out some plain flour /wheat flour.
- Now start to prepare the chicken by first dipping in flour and then in the egg and lastly in the crumps. Coat the chicken well with the crumps.
- If you’re grilling place the chicken on a tray lined with parchment paper.
- Alternately, you can deep fry.
- Enjoy with a simple salad !
